Food and nutrition are getting a new focus to support Welsh athletes in their hunger for medal success. As part of a new programme, the performance nutrition team at the Sport Wales Institute has partnered with us, the Rhug Estate, to offer our award-winning organic produce to Wales’ world class athletes. The initiative also sees Welsh athletes receive practical cookery workshops with Sport Wales chefs to help them maximise the nutritional intake for their training needs.

Sport Wales Performance Nutritionist, Felicity Hares said The aim of having Welsh food partners is to provide quality food to the athletes at accessible prices. We want our athletes to be fuelled by the high quality food we produce here in Wales. The right food means athletes have more time to train by reducing risks of injury and illness, better adaptation to training sessions and delivering their best possible performance on competition day. We selected these partners because of the standards of products  and their willingness to partner with Sport Wales to fuel Welsh sporting success.

We would really love to create a buzz about the launch of these food partners and get our athletes and sportsmen and women using proper Welsh food to fuel their performances.

Athletes from athletics and cycling were the latest to take part, including Commonwealth Games medallist Rhys Jones.

Lord Newborough said Organic meat provides the best possible nutrition and is higher in vitamins, minerals and omega 3 than conventional meat. We are very proud at the Rhug Estate to support our Welsh athletes and to ensure a healthier world for future generations to enjoy.
