Rhug Estate is delighted to be working with award-winning photographer and filmmaker, Sue Flood, to offer an unique photography course this spring. If you enjoy taking photographs but need some help and advice on how to improve, this is the perfect course for you.

Sue Flood spent 11 years with the BBC Natural History Unit, working on series including The Blue Planet and Planet Earth, as well as the Disneynature movie Earth with Sir David Attenborough, before turning her focus to photography. Sue lives in Gwynedd but her photography work takes her all over the world and she has a special passion for the wildlife and icy beauty of Antarctica. She is one of the very few women who chooses to return again and again to Earth’s harshest and most demanding environment.

Rhug Estate has put together a one-day course where participants will get photography insights from Sue Flood as well as Rhug’s very own talented photographer, Huw Jones.

The course will incorporate handy tips and techniques to improve your photography, whether you have a smart phone, point and shoot camera or professional kit.  This course is suitable for beginners and intermediate photographers.

Lord Newborough, Owner of Rhug Estate, is excited to be working with Sue Flood. He said, “We are thrilled to be able to offer this unique photography course. We are delighted Sue and Huw have agreed to offer their expertise to those of us who enjoy taking photographs but are lucky if we capture a good shot of the beautiful north Wales landscape or the stunning wildlife around the estate when we just point and shoot!”

The one-day ‘Capture the Moment’ photography course will take place on Saturday, 14 May 2022 & Monday, 16 May 2022. The course will start at 10am and finish at 4.30pm and will include refreshments and lunch at Rhug Estate. Sue and Huw will combine comprehensive classroom learning with a practical, outdoor, session taking photos of the animals and wildlife around Rhug Estate.

Sue Flood said, “I have admired the beautiful landscape around Rhug Estate for many years and look forward to offering my expertise, along with Huw, on how best to capture images of the local wildlife. Having seen all the excellent work Lord Newborough and the team have done recently to help the women and children of Ukraine I would like to donate my fee from this course to this worthy cause as well.”

Huw is the son of Rhug Estate’s Farm Manager, Gareth Jones. For many years Huw has documented life on Rhug’s organic farm with breath-taking images of farm life through the seasons. Huw said, “Receiving my first camera as a gift for my 13th birthday, I would take it on long walks around the farm capturing the landscape that I’m lucky enough to call home. I am constantly learning and pushing myself in photography. Being able to capture moments such as lambs being born and red kites flying above is such a privilege.”
