The country might be in lockdown at the moment but work continues on the farm at Rhug Estate, near Corwen in Denbighshire, as the farmers go about their vital work in producing high quality organic meat. Award-winning organic chicken, beef, lamb, bison and venison are produced for customers worldwide.

Rhug Estate’s organic farm is delighted to welcome Lowri Williams, from Glyndyfrdwy, who has recently joined the team as the new Poultry Assistant.

Lowri helps manage the health and welfare of the chickens on the organic farm. Excellent animal husbandry is essential in her position as the birds are hand reared, they mature slowly for up to 16 weeks in small groups. Before joining the team at Rhug she attended Llysfasi Agricultural College after graduating from Ysgol Dinas Bran in Llangollen.

Gareth Williams, Rhug Estate’s Poultry Manager, celebrated a significant work anniversary last year when he was awarded the long service medal at the Royal Welsh Show after completing 40 years of service with Rhug.

Gareth is delighted that Lowri has joined him to help manage the flock of birds. He said, “Lowri has settled into her role on the farm very quickly and is a pleasure to work with. She has had a gentle introduction to this side of the business before we introduce this year’s flocks of turkey and geese chicks next month.”

Rhug Estate organic turkeys and geese enjoy almost seven months living free range on the farm. Once they have settled in their lodges they can venture out every day onto clover-rich organic pasture, feed on the finest organic oats, grown on the farm and enjoy a stress-free life listening to classical music.

Lord Newborough, Owner of Rhug Estate said, “It is always an exciting time of the year when the young geese and turkeys arrive on the farm, another milestone in our seasonal calendar. Like all animals on the farm, eliminating stress is an all-important factor. Stress free animals produce the highest quality meat. Rhug staff are able to watch the birds grow up through their office window. These turkeys are the Rolls Royce of turkeys and are produced to give you the very best for you and your family to enjoy at the most important meal of the year.”

Lowri said, “I’m delighted to be working with Lord Newborough and the team at Rhug. Rhug Estate is such a diverse business and yet at its core is organic farming. I am pleased to be working with a fabulous team of people in the most amazing surroundings. I enjoy being outdoors in all weather and am looking forward to the young turkeys and geese arriving in a few weeks.”

When she is not working at Rhug, Lowri helps her dad on the family’s beef and sheep farm in Glyndyfrdwy. She also keeps her own chickens and ponies. In her spare time Lowri is learning and teaching Thai boxing at Wrexham Thai Boxing Club.
