Rhug Organic PGI Welsh Lamb will be served at HRH The Queen’s birthday party celebrations today at the British High Commission in Singapore. Eight hundred guests will attend the flagship event and will be served Rhug’s award winning organic Lamb Shoulder.

The event will celebrate the links between Singapore and the UK and will showcase the Singapore – UK Partnership for the Future. This will be the fourth year that Rhug Estate has been involved in the event and supplied lamb.

Lord Newborough, owner of Rhug Estate, said, “It is a great honour to be asked to supply our top-quality organic Welsh lamb for this special occasion. We have a great relationship with our customers in Singapore and relish the opportunity to celebrate the successful business links between our two countries. My thanks go to Hybu Cig Cymru / Meat Promotion Wales for their financial assistance in being able to provide Welsh Lamb for this event today in Singapore.”

Rhug Estate has been supplying many of the top restaurants and hotels in Singapore since 2009 with organic lamb, salt marsh lamb, beef and chicken reared on the estate. Rhug also source organic pork, local shot wild deer and organic eggs for top chefs who recognise the Rhug as a strong, well-recognised Michelin star brand, which offers unrivalled security of provenance.

Lord Newborough added, “Our customers in Singapore are a mixture of international clientele and discerning locals that want to know where their food comes from and how it is produced. We deliver to Singapore via our distributors, Classic Fine Foods, every week and I go to meet our customers twice a year. The superior quality of Rhug’s meat speaks for itself but I do firmly believe that regularly meeting with our customers is essential in order to explain how we use sustainable farming practices to produce our high-quality meats. Organic farming is all to do with adopting the highest standards of animal welfare standards and removing stress in the production cycle, this produces the highest quality meat.”

Rhug has been supplying meat to the Royal households for the past seven years including Welsh lamb, chickens, turkeys and bison meat. A Royal Warrant of Appointment Certificate was issued in April 2018 which states Rhug Organic Farm is certified, by command of His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales, to supply organic meat to His Royal Highness’ households.

Rhug’s Welsh lamb has PGI status (protected geographical indication) and is noted as some of the best lamb in the world. Rhug Organic Welsh Lamb Shoulder joint, was voted in 2012 as one of the ‘Best Top 50 Foods in the UK’ by the acclaimed Great Taste Awards.

Lord Newborough is pictured during a visit to Singapore earlier this year with the Head Chef at the Shangrila, Heidi Hampson, a customer of Rhug.
