The Rhug welcomed members of Chester U3A’s Industrial Heritage 3 Group to the Estate earlier this week. The retired group were fascinated to meet the Rhug’s resident herd of Bison and learn more about the lamb and beef produced on the farm for the on-site Farm Shop, Bistro and Takeaway.

Whilst visiting the Rhug the group of 18 were given a tour of the farm by Gareth Jones, Rhug Farm Manager, they then enjoyed lunch in the Rhug Bistro and finished their visit in the Farm Shop.

Sheila Young, who organised the trip, said, “We were very grateful to the staff at the Rhug for accommodating our visit. We were all interested to learn how the Rhug generates its own electricity, manages its land organically and husbandry of the sheep, cows and bison during the winter.”

The Rhug Estate encourages groups to arrange a tour of the farm to learn more about how their food is produced in a sustainable way. Educational groups are especially welcome.

Lord Newborough said, “I believe it is part of our job as custodians of this land to impart the knowledge we have to the next generation. I feel it is vitally important to spread the word about how important organic farming is to providing a better, more sustainable and healthy future for the next generation.”
