Independent stores and farm shops, including Rhug Farm Shop, from across Wales are taking part in a nationwide campaign to get the UK enjoying an organic breakfast on Wednesday June 15th 2016.
Wholefood stores and organic cafes are taking part in this exciting campaign, which will see independent retailers all over the UK offering the nation free organic mini-breakfasts.
Lord Newborough of Rhug Organic Farm and Café said “We are delighted to be supporting the Wake up to Organic campaign as we have always been strong promoters of organic production and organic food. This campaign shows how easy it is to make the switch to an organic breakfast and have a healthy start to the day.

Recent studies indicate that the UK is increasingly interested in choosing organic - sales of organic products increased by 4.9% last year and organic sales via independent stores grew by 7.5%. This is significant growth in a year when overall spending on food fell. Popular breakfast foods were all up including yogurt (2.1%), eggs (2.6%), cereals (5.6%) and tea (12.8%).
Sales of organic food and drink in Wales are worth £140m, and make up almost 14% of the UK organic market. 89% of organic producers in Wales expect sales to continue at current levels or for sales to increase.
Catherine Fookes from the Organic Trade Board and a member of the Food and Drink in Wales Industry Board said, “I’m so pleased that Wales is embracing the Wake up to Organic campaign. We have some great organic producers here in Wales and we want to celebrate the food they produce. The Welsh Food and Drink Action Plan aims to grow Welsh food and drink sales by 30% by 2020 and of course organic food and drink can be part of that growth.”
