Rhug Estate is taking part in the Welsh Government’s St David’s Day campaign #ThisisWales this week to help promote Welsh food and drink to new audiences around the UK and Far East.

The Welsh Government campaign aims to raise awareness of Welsh produce to new consumers in targeted areas including Manchester, London and Dubai around Saint David’s Day and in the future.

As part of the campaign the Rhug Estate and Owner, Lord Newborough, appear in a Welsh Government St David’s Day video. Rhug Organic PGI Welsh Lamb has also featured on the menu of a Welsh Government St David’s Day event held at the British Embassy in Dubai.

Lord Newborough and his team at Rhug Estate have been supplying many of the top restaurants in London, the Far and the Middle East since 2004 with organic lamb, salt marsh lamb, beef, chicken and game reared on the estate. Rhug also source organic pork, local wild deer and organic eggs for top chefs who recognise the Rhug as a strong, well-recognised, brand which offers security of provenance.

Lord Newborough said, “We always welcome Welsh Government initiatives which help promote the food and drink we produce here in Wales to a wider audience. I believe it is our job as farmers to ensure we are producing the best quality food and drink in a sustainable way. We should not always rely on others to market our produce however, as we all need to take responsibility for telling the story behind our products.”

Lord Newborough added, “Our customers are many and varied, from three Michelin star restaurants to specialist delis. We deliver to London three times a week in a refrigerated van, and we also offer a UK-wide mail order service on the website. I personally visit our customers in London once a fortnight to discuss what is new, as the seasons are always changing, it could be wild game off the estate, or milk lambs or salt marsh lambs or organic eggs and the Rhug Wholesale team are always on hand to deliver what is required.”

The Rhug Estate Farm Shop and Bistro will also be celebrating Saint David’s Day. The Bison Grill Bistro will have a St David’s day Special menu throughout Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 1, 2 and 3rd March. Rhug Farm Shop stocks over 3,000 products from local Welsh suppliers and small businesses. The main aim in the Farm Shop is to support and promote Welsh and local businesses whilst offering customers the highest quality, organic, unique and essential items. Rhug has signed up to Denbighshire County Council’s #LoveLiveLocal campaign which encourages people to use their local shops and services and share positive experiences of Denbighshire as a great place to shop and enjoy.
