Educational Workshops

Discover the wonders of nature with our educational workshops hosted by Animal Encounters and Living Wild. During half term, children can learn about different animals and participate in hands-on wild crafting activities, including making their own witch’s brooms in our Spooky Garden.

Animal Encounters Wales - Creepy Crawlies workshop

At the Nook, Rhug Estate Farm Shop & Café (LL21 0EH)

Join us for a spine-tingling experience with Animal Encounters’ creepiest critters! This fully interactive event lets you meet some of nature’s most eerie creatures up close. You’ll learn about their unusual diets, help feed them, and maybe even face your fears as you handle these creepy crawlies.

This event offers a fantastic opportunity for children to learn about the wilder side of nature while having a frightfully fun experience. Ever held a tarantula? Seen a snake up close? Now’s your chance!

This 1 hour workshop will include:

  • Handle and feed a variety of creepy crawlies and unusual animals with the Animal Encounters Team.
  • Learn more about how we keep these critters happy and healthy.

Age Guidance: Suitable for children from 18 months and up. Parental supervision and attendance required for children under 8 yrs old.

Foraging Fun - Witches and Webs

The Spooky Garden, Rhug Estate Farm Shop & Café (LL21 0EH)

Join us for a magical outdoor adventure with Leah from Living Wild, as we dive into the spooky world of foraging crafts! In this Halloween-themed workshop, children will use natural materials from the estate to create their very own witches brooms, spiders, and potions. Guided by Leah, they’ll explore the wonders of nature while crafting eerie decorations to take home. And to finish off, we’ll gather around a fire* for a cozy treat of hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows—perfect for a crisp autumn day.

Age Guidance: Suitable for children aged 5-10. Children Must be accompanied by an adult. (Ticket includes adult admission)

  • Tuesday session: Ghosts and Ghouls
    Find and paint a selection of different leaves and string them together to create your very own handmade halloween bunting
  • Wednesday session: Spiders and Spiders Webs
    Craft your own spooky spider webs using sticks and string, then make pine cone spiders with pipe cleaners
  • Thursday Session: Witches Brooms and Magic Wands
    Create your very own witches’ brooms using natural materials, then design your own magic wand, perfect for your halloween costume

Do I need to book in advance?

Not for the Pumpkin Picking. This year we are asking out customers to just turn up and enter the Pumpkin Field without prior booking.

You will be required to book places for the Workshops we are offering at Rhug Estate on Monday 28th to Thursday 31st October. Booking information can be found higher up this page.

How much does it cost to pick pumpkins?

It is free to enter the Pumpkin Field. You will be required to pay for any of the pumpkins you choose to buy.

Please remember that we are a cashless establishment and only accept card payments.

Are dogs allowed?

Dogs are allowed on the estate farm walk, but not in the Pumpkin Field itself.

Are toilet facilities available?

Yes, toilet facilities are available on-site and at the farm shop.

Are there any age restrictions for pumpkin picking?

There is no minimum age, but all under-16s will need to be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Rhug Estate is a working farm, and you are responsible for your own safety at all times. Please follow the safety notices and the directions of the Rhug farm team on site.

What should I wear for pumpkin picking?

We recommend wearing comfortable clothing suitable for the weather and sturdy/waterproof shoes for walking through the fields.

What happens if it rains?

Pumpkin picking will proceed as planned unless conditions become unsafe. Updates will be provided on our website and social media channels.

Can I purchase food and drinks?

Yes, we have a selection of hot and cold drinks available in the cafe and take away.
