SUNSHINE, SHOWERS AND SMILES AT RHUG ESTATE’S OPEN FARM SUNDAY

This past Sunday, we opened our gates once again for Open Farm Sunday 2025, welcoming visitors from near and far to explore the sights, sounds, and stories of our working organic farm.

Despite a few passing showers, the day was filled with energy, curiosity, and plenty of reasons to smile – as families, friends, and farming enthusiasts came together to learn, connect, and enjoy a great day out in the countryside.

Exploring the Estate by Tractor

Our tractor trailer tours took families across the estate to see our chickens, cows, and much-loved bison, who were moved into clearer view especially for the day. The bison walk was also open for visitors to explore on foot and get a closer look at these magnificent animals.

FARM LIFE IN ACTION

Guests hopped on tractor tours to see our cows and chickens, while the bison walk gave everyone the chance to see our bison up close. To make the most of the day, we moved the bison into better view and added informational posters to share more about the animals and Rhug’s farming story.

Visitors also gathered for working sheepdog demonstrations and live sheep shearing, which offered a glimpse into the traditional skills still used here on the estate.

Craft Stalls, Vintage Tractors and Family Activities

At the centre of the event, our field was buzzing with activity. The craft tent showcased a wonderful range of local producers and makers, with everything from artisan bakes and handmade jewellery to books, clothing and thoughtful gifts.

Vintage tractors were available for children (and adults!) to sit on, while bouncy castles kept younger guests entertained throughout the day. Mynydd Sled Dogs also joined us with their working dogs and equipment, sparking plenty of interest from animal lovers and outdoor enthusiasts alike.

Sharing What Matters

Open Farm Sunday is a highlight in our calendar, giving us the opportunity to celebrate sustainable farming, support local talent, and connect with people who care about where their food comes from.

We’d like to thank everyone who came along and all those who helped make the day possible – from our wonderful stallholders and visiting demonstrators to our hardworking Rhug team.

We’re proud to be part of a strong, supportive community and we’re already looking forward to the next event.

Keep an eye on our website and social media for more updates – and we hope to welcome you back to Rhug Estate soon.
